Exploring Lake Zurich’s Paulus Park

Continuing on with my adventures of Lake County, I decided to explore Lake Zurich.  I heard that they were hosting an Iron Girl competition at their Paulus Park on Rand Road just north of 22 this weekend (June 15, 2013), so I decided to stop in to see what the park looked like.

The Path to Paulus Park

What a little gem!  Even though it’s conveniently located right off of Rand, this park is tucked behind a lot of lawn space and tall trees, so it feels more like a sea side beach town than a booming metropolis with a Drive-Thru Starbucks and Holiday Inn Express across the street.

The sandy beach looked extremely inviting, and while it was a little chilly for a swim, there were a few people just leaving that had been laying out all day.  They looked fully recharged and reminded me more of vacation goers than your average suburbanite.

And the park itself (pictured below) is something out of a child’s imagination! We’re talking a bunch of slides, nets to climb on, bell towers to explore, bridges to conquer, ropes to traverse and more!  I wanted to be a five-year-old again so I could explore the wood working adventures that this intricate park offers.  You can be sure that all of my friends with kids will be hearing about how unique and fun this park looks.  (I can only hope that one of their kids will drag me into a game of tag!)

I might not know when the next sunny day will happen upon us, but at least I know the spot of sand I’m going to head to when it does.  Until then, I’ll just choose a book and spot in the grass under the shade of a large Maple and get lost in this suburban oasis.

If you go, be sure to share your pictures with us!  #VisitLakeCounty #LakeCountyIllinois

Last Chance to Check Out ‘My One and Only!’

This Sunday, January 13th 2013, will be your last chance to see My One and Only. The popular play has been showing at the Marriot Theatre in Lincolnshire since November 7th, 2012 and once it retires this weekend, will mark the end of The Marriott Theatre’s 2012 season catalog of musicals. For those of you who are wondering what My One and Only is about, this musical is set during the roaring 20’s in a Gershwin tap dance extravaganza. The plot involves an aviator who has one ambition: to be the first man to fly non-stop to Paris. However, he meets the girl of his dreams and their romantic pursuit is sidetracked by a series of misadventures.

In case you cannot make it out in time to catch My One and Only, The Marriott Theatre will be debuting its first musical of the 2013 catalog on January 16th. Now & Forever: The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber kicks off the year with a bang! The shows of Andrew Lloyd Webber are theatrical treasures…his music legendary. The Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire is located at 10 Marriott Dr., Lincolnshire, IL.

Taste of Lincolnshire

As much as I love going downtown for the annual Taste of Chicago i’m just not sure if it’s worth it this year to endure the crowds when the taste of Lincolnshire is happening this weekend right here in Lake County.  This seems like the perfect opportunity to meet up with friends and family after work to enjoy a drink and sample dishes from local favorite restaurants.  Some restaurant vendors this year include: Egg Harbor Cafe, El Barrio, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse, Luke’s of Mundelein, Eddie Merlot’s, Philly G’s, Smokin T’s and many more.  Besides tasting samples from some of my favorite restaurants I look forward to discovering new places to eat out. What better way to discover new potential dining options then getting a “taste” of the menu first.   With friends from out of town visiting this weekend this is the perfect opportunity to give them a “taste” of a variety of restaurants in the area instead of sticking to just one.

Taste Of Lincolnshire 2011

In addition to all the dining options there will be plenty of entertainment for the whole family. The Juke Box Band will kick off the celebration on Friday night at 5:30, followed by the Downhome Sophisticates.  Entertainment of Saturday will include a bag tournament, cooking demo, wine tasting, and of course live music.  To keep the kids busy there will be a bounce house, face painting and a clown show.  Every year the celebration seems to grown bigger and bigger.  With a packed entertainment schedule and so many excellent restaurants to choose from this Taste of Lincolnshire is sure to be the best yet!
