2013 BMW Championship Coming to Lake County in September

Lake County, IL will welcome the top men’s PGA players to the 2013 BMW Championship, September 9 – 15, 2013 at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, IL. Over 120,000 spectators and attendees are expected to watch golfers Luke Donald, Rory Mcllroy, Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Tiger Woods and more battle for the title.

Weekend Watch, Visit Lake County’s tips on things to do this weekend

  1. Bring the family out to the 84th Annual Lake County Fair in Grayslake. There is something for everyone to enjoy from the livestock barns, amusement rides, Monster Trucks, Demo Derby to food vendors and live entertainment including the band 7th Heaven. Plus, you don’t want to miss the live Sasquatch calling competition happening tonight at 9pm on the main stage. Military personal in uniform will receive free admission and this year’s special for family of 4 admission is $25.
  1. Don’t miss the Barrington Summerfest this Friday from 4pm-12am and Saturday from 11am-12am.  This two-day event features some of the greatness that the Barrington region has to offer, including live music, food, and a focus on family fun! The annual Barrington Sidewalk Days will be happening at the same time, so it will be truly a fantastic weekend to spend in town!
  1. Rink Side’s 13th Annual Summer Chiller Event is happening this Saturday from 8am – 3:30pm at Rink Side Family Entertainment Center in Gurnee! Enjoy watching the ice skating competition for children ages 3-16. Entertaining performances throughout the day. New this year will be Couples Spotlight, Hockey events for age 3-12 and open Freestyle Events.
  1. This Saturday from 5pm – 9pm is the 5th Annual Waukegan Wine and Art Stroll. Purchase a wine glass ($15 in advance and $20 at the door) and experience tastings at participating downtown Waukegan locations and excellent musical entertainment. Also, don’t miss The Pinta and The Nina, replica ships located at the Waukegan Harbor through July 31.
  1. The first Annual Venus De Miles All Women Road Ride is Sunday at Lake Forest College.  Venus de Miles is a lot of things – Illinois’ first all-women’s road ride, a celebration of sisterhood and crazy fun, but one thing it’s not is a race. So, don’t be afraid to walk your bike up that hill, stop to listen to a band, and most importantly, enjoy. Venus is for all skill levels and features four courses to accommodate any rider – novice or seasoned. Stay for the post race festival.

Weekend Watch, Visit Lake County’s tips on things to do

The City of Lake Forestkicks off its’ Farmer’s Market this weekend from 8am – 1pm at the East Lake Forest Train Station. You will find local produce from seasonal fruits, vegetables, meat to poultry and dairy products. There will also be local chefs selling a variety of treats including swirl cupcakes, pies, ice pops cookies, appetizers and much more.

Stop by the Long Grove Strawberry Fest this weekend in Long Grove. This is the granddaddy of Long Grove’s signature festivals and is considered one of the premier outdoor festivals in the Chicagoland area. Live music will be happening all weekend. There will be children’s activities, strawberry flavored and inspired treats from melt-in-your-mouth chocolate covered strawberries to strawberry martinis and desserts. New this year, is a $5 per person entry fee.

Swing by ShilohParkin the City of Zionfor the 26th Annual Nostalgia Days Car show. Tonight there will be a dance at 6:30pm with outdoor movies to follow. The Antique Custom Car Show will take place on Saturday with the Sheridan Road Cruize immediately following. The entire family will enjoy food, live music and DJ’s and games.

Wauconda Fest is happening all weekend at Cook Park in Wauconda. You will enjoy live music, a carnival, Taste of the Fest, 5K/10K on Sunday, Wauconda’s Got Talent, Car Show, bags tournament, family games, wine tasting and much more. This is one event that the entire family will enjoy.

If you missed Mardi Gras in New Orleansthis year, don’t worry, you can still experience Mardi Gras at Six Flags Great America on Saturday and Sunday. The streets of Orleans Place will be transformed into a party atmosphere featuring the sights, sounds and tastes of Bourbon Street including live music, parades and fireworks. The Rue Le Dodge Bumper Car arena in Orleans Place will be morphed into a one-of-a-kind dueling piano bar offering New Orleans inspired cocktails, live entertainment and a crawfish eating contest.
